SXSW - IT's only Rock n Roll but I like it!Since moving to Austin from LA in 2007, The Sin City Social Club has expanded their role in bringing "Cosmic American Music" to the forefront of Austin's thriving music scene. Following Gram (Parsons) lead, the Sin City Social Club is a renegade collective of musicians, fans, artists and industry executives brought together by shared appreciation of the art and culture that blur the lines between classic, outlaw & alt. country, soul, r&b, and indie singer songwriters...isn't that the foundation for rock n roll?!This year Sin City will put 35+ artists on 3 different stages in South Austin during the SXSW Music Festival! After hosting un-sanctioned events for the past 8 years, Sin City (along with Sirius XM's Outlaw Country channel) will co-present their first OFFICIAL SXSW showcase on Wednesday, March 17th at the world famous CONTINENTAL CLUB - featuring SHURMAN, SARAH BORGES & The BROKEN SINGLES, JESSE DAYTON (as Captain Clegg), THE MOTHER TRUCKERS and RAUL MALO with Outlaw Country hosts Mojo Nixon, Elizabeth Cook and Dallas Wayne. Over the next 3 days Sin City has teamed up with various organizations such as FREEB!RDS World Burrito, St. Vincent de Paul and SWEET RELIEF MUSICIANS FUND to feature a diverse collection of artists; from Austin chanteuse RUBY JAMES, roots rockers SHURMAN, Nashville indie rockers THE DEEP VIBRATION, funk & soul from Austin's T BIRD & THE BREAKS & LA's ORGONE + core artists from the Sin City community including JIM LAUDERDALE, ROSIE FLORES, MIKE STINSON (w. We Wanna HELP WILL SEXTON Benefit! In December of 2009, Will Sexton suffered a minor stroke. Will is doing really well, but his bills and doctor visits, will be ongoing. He has lost some of his cognitive functions, part of which is his ability to remember any of the songs he has written and sung for most of his life. This affects his ability to do the thing he loves most, which is also his primary source of income. Will is a beloved member of the Austin music community, and his contribution to the scene as writer, player, accompanist, teacher & friend cannot be overstated. He is one of the most respected musicians in town. A group of us are putting together this benefit. I'M WITH THE BAND!We are eagerly anticipating this HBO "dramady", "I'm With The Band" about a member of our Sin City family, Miss Pamela Des Barres! The story below is from rollingstone.com:   She and Him singer and (500) Days of Summer actress Zooey Deschanel will essentially merge the two aspects of her career by starring as the title character in a pilot for HBO’s upcoming dramedy I’m With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie, Deadline.com reports.The series will be based on the 1987 memoir of the same name by former groupie Pamela Des Barres, with Deschanel playing the role of the author. In the memoir, Des Barres reminisces about her adventures in ’60s/’70s-era rock & roll, starting out as a nanny for Frank Zappa before eventually becoming the love interest of Mick Jagger and Jimmy Page. Des Barres was actually a member of a group of groupies that labeled themselves “the GTOs,” which likely served as the inspiration for the “Band-Aides” in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. To bring this whole thing full circle, Deschanel also appeared in Almost Famous, but played the young reporter’s cool older sister and not as a Band-Aide. As Rolling Stone previously reported, in addition to building on her acting resume, Mrs. Ben Gibbard and M. Ward will release She and Him’s Volume 2 on March 23rd.
